Skype beta 4 rocks or sucks!!

Posted by: dsocialweb on: October 15, 2008

Over the years, Skype has added a lot of richness and functionality. It’s no longer just a little piece of software for making free calls. Its video calling experience, now enjoyed on over a quarter of all Skype to Skype calls, is starting to take center stage alongside other great features such as instant messaging, group conversations, SMS & voicemail.

Here comes the Skype 4.0 Beta 1 for Windows to rock the world!!

The Given Video calling screen size is finally deserves and it is really easy to use..A single click on the Video call button and you’ll be seeing and talking. Video doesn’t start off really small anymore – it’s big and beautiful to begin with. You can also resize and move your own video window around the screen quite easily. Plus in one click, you can have an IM conversation alongside the video call.

Helping people juggle lots of conversations all at once is another reason behind the big changes in 4.0 Beta. We found people had to keep track of multiple windows in order to have a few conversations. In fact, if you had a High Quality Video call alongside an IM, plus you were sending a couple of pictures that was five windows! It’s now all in one window. Take a look at the Conversations button just above the Contact list. It’s a list of all the conversations you’ve got going on. Just click between them to pick up a conversation right where you left off. You can also pop your conversations out into separate windows if you prefer having different windows for different conversations.

I found some people claims the beta does start up in full screen; it is possible to resize the window, although not down to the size of Skype 3.8. This has been done to have many conversations at one window.

The beta 1 version has made the user very difficult to perform multitasking as it occupied the full screen. Therefore, Skype 4.0 beta 2 has overcome it by offering it looks like Skype 3 with a contact list in one window and chat, audio or voice window showing up in a second screen.

Beside that, the new beta version also reintroduces contact groups that allow user to arrange their contacts by category and the notifications which will show alerts in Windows Taskbar, system tray and in the program itself. So that, the user will very hard to miss out a call or message.

Base on CNET reports, Skype will plan to release at least one more beta version of Skype 4.0 before the final release. That version expected to include the features like call history, public chats, birthday notifications and others.

For more details as well as more feedback from some valuable users I’ll suggest having a visit to Skype’s own Feedback herd.

But I love it both in my Desktop: and eeepc : !! :)

OK, that’s enough from me. Go ahead and download it, try it out for a few days, make some video calls and then let me know what you think.
